Whiting, Ind. – July 11, 2017 – As America finishes celebrating its independence, two individuals celebrate winning Midwest Collegiate League Player of the Week after some fireworks of their own.

Jack Butler (Bloomington, Ill./Illinois State) of the Bloomington Bobcats earned his first MCL player of the Week award. Butler ripped four RBIs last week, scored seven runs, blasted one home run and hit .500 (9-18) at the plate. The All-Star outfielder has had an unbelievable season, leading the MCL a .447 average. Butler’s contribution also helped Bloomington surpass Northwest Indiana for second place in the MCL with just three weeks left before the playoffs.

As for the Pitcher of the Week, Southland’s Kevin Glynn (Chicago, Ill./South Suburban) won the award after tossing a complete game shutout against Crestwood on July 6. In the victory, Glynn struck out 11, gave up 4 hits and pitched the Vikings to a 3-0 win. The outing brought Glynn’s ERA to 2.04 on the season. The Vikings, after a hot start, find themselves at 16-16 and in fourth place in the Midwest Collegiate League.
